Board of Education Meeting Minutes for August 14, 2023
The Board of Education met on Monday, August 14, at 5:30 pm. Members present: Brian Aaberg,
Brad Anderson, David Ciancio, Scott Russell, Beth Sonderup and Jennifer Wood.
Public notice of the meeting was published in the Nance County Journal on July 26, 2023.
Called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm.

Recognized visitors.
Approved the agenda as presented.
Spotlight – The first week In-Service update was given by the administrative team. They
highlighted the various trainings and meetings that took place over the four-day period.
Dr Anderson gave an update on summer facility work. He shared that the high school window
project has been completed, and that the buildings and grounds committee will be looking at some
possible flooring upgrades.
Dr. Anderson provided a budget presentation that included projections of the various school funds,
the concept of the additional property tax authority request, and the possible levy rates. Overall,
the school district will have a decrease/reduction in the tax asking amount for the 2023-2024
school year as compared to 2022-2023.
It was moved by Russell and seconded by Ciancio to approve the spend down transfer of $40,000
to the Activities Fund and $75,000 to the Depreciation Fund. Roll call vote: Aye-6, Nay-0.
It was moved by Russell and seconded by Anderson to approve the resolution to increase the
District’s overall property tax request authority by an additional four percent above the base
growth percentage, or other maximum amount as permitted by law. Roll call vote: Aye-6, Nay-0.
It was moved by Wood and seconded by Aaberg to approve the bus driver pay as presented. Roll
call vote: Aye-6, Nay-0.
It was moved by Anderson and seconded by Sonderup to approve to adjust the price of adult
breakfast to $2.75 and adult lunch to $4.60. Roll call vote: Aye-6, Nay-0.
Approved the minutes from the regular July 10, 2023, board meeting.
Approved the Treasurer’s report as presented.
Approved the payment of bills as presented.
Adjourned the meeting at 6:34 pm.
